Tool #11 |
Challenge Depression |
You deserve to feel good.
The conversation of depression seems to come up a lot these days. Having struggled in the past myself with depression, I'm always saddened to hear of struggles from people fighting the dark side. It's easy to stipulate that a simple change of mind or taking medications can cure the blues, but the truth is levels of depression vary from person to person and what may heal one, may not heal another.
How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!

Next time your blue, depressed or down, try this:
Set a timer for an hour (two hours if your mental state requires a nap) and write the word 'Walk' on a piece of paper next to the timer. Now use this hour of time in your Emotional Toolbox (Tool #5), or, if you need to cry, do so. If you need to nap, do so. If you need to scream, do so.
When the timer goes off, don't think about it, just do it. Don't hesitate. Take a Walk. Don't make excuses. Walk anywhere. Walk for at least 20 minutes. If you have physical limitation, get your body moving in some way- even if it's sitting in a chair and moving your legs and arms.
Strengthen your body, strengthen your mind.
Physical activity is good for the body, mind and spirit.
You'll be surprised how much better you will feel with some physical activity!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Let's Pray.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being here with me now. There are times I feel so low and defeated. It is at these times, I have the tendency to shut down. Help me, Lord, to seek you in times of sorrow and trouble. Teach me, Lord, to lean on you and to make healthy choices to feel better mentally and emotionally. I know that asking for help doesn't make me weak. Please give the strength to ask for help when I need it, Lord.
Thank you for loving even my imperfections.
Amen.
Repeat this prayer as needed.
It is important for you to know, you are not alone. Everyone struggles at times.
Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Be proud of your growth.
